Toomey Tourell Fine Art is pleased to announce a solo exhibition of new works by Los Angeles based artist Ray Turner. Read press release below.
LA based Ray Turner works with a confidence and and material opulence whether the pictorial construct lies in the realm of landscape or portraiture. Spending the last years touring “Population”, his ode to a variety of portraits and their permutations with numerous museums across the country, Sea Storm Series is a return to Turner’s investigation of the reflective surfaces of sky and cloud. With rich applications, lush brushwork and vibrant color, Turner achieves voluminous form and filtered light, imbuing all with a sense of melancholy and impermanence. Always a master of atmospherics, here scale, color and contrast combine unerringly in his depictions of these dream like configurations. These haze shrouded formations radiate with presence, juxtaposing the transitory with the permanent. The works, though Neo-Romantic, are intriguingly mindful of horizon line and vanishing point, taking the viewer to uncharted visual territory. Vibrating between abstraction and the representative, one is drawn into their physicality while experiencing their shimmering transcendence.
Ray Turner has exhibited extensively in the US, including exhibitions at the Pasadena Museum of Art, the Huntington Museum of Art and the Long Beach Museum of Art. His work has been included in many important public and private collections.
This is Ray Turner’s eighth exhibition with Toomey Tourell
